My blog is titled Thomas's Blog: About Anything. I authenticate that title with this post. My kids loved to watch Phineas and Ferb. Yes, I will admit that I loved that show too. Phineas and Ferb was about two half-brothers who wanted to make the most of each day on their summer break. They built a beach in their backyard, they painted a continent, and they traveled in time and space. Everything they did was amazing! My whole family was saddened when we learned that Phineas and Ferb came to an end June 12, 2015. The final show was titled "The Last Day of Summer;" it was the end of an era.

Now, fast forward approximately 41,385,600 seconds to the premier of Milo Murphy's Law. This show's producers are Jeff 'Swampy' Marsh and Dan Povenmire, the same producers of Phineas and Ferb. Milo is a thirteen-year-old boy who is the great-great-great-great grandson of Murphy's Law namesake. What is Murphy's Law? The old adage "Anything that can go wrong, will go wrong" is Murphy's Law. The show is about Milo's epic misadventures.

As my children and I have watched Milo Murphy's Law, we couldn't help but notice some connections with Phineas and Ferb. Marsh and Povenmire's new show is the antithesis of their old show. My children and I will show you the comparisons.

Main Characters

Phineas and Ferb completed everything with excellence. It seemed like everything they did would just fall together without any problems. In the first episode of the series, they build a roller coaster that spans their entire town. Their mom doesn't catch them and everything is cleaned up miraculously without them lifting a finger. Milo Murphy is the opposite of them. He cannot seem to do anything without it falling apart. In the first episode, Milo meets Zack a new student. They miss the school bus so Milo shows him a short cut. Along the way, they barely escape wolves, bees, fire, and an alien abduction.

The Sibling

Phineas and Ferb's sister is Candace. She is an ecstatic teenager who wants to "bust" her brothers. She is always trying to get her brothers caught in their elaborate schemes. She is high-strung and worries about everything. Milo's sister is Sara. Again, she is the antithesis of Candace. She is laid back and seems not to care about anything. She is constantly getting left behind because no one knows when she is around.

The Pet

Phineas and Ferb's pet is an awesome platypus named Perry. He is a platypus by day and a secret agent by night and whenever O.W.C.A (Organization Without a Cool Acronym) needs him. Phineas and Ferb are constantly asking the question, "Where's Perry?" Milo's pet is a dog, yes an average dog named Diogee (It sounds like the letters of Dog named out like D - O - G). Diogee pops up in the episodes in the weirdest places. Milo is constantly telling Diogee to "Go Home."

The Side Stories

Phineas and Ferb included an evil person whose goal was to take over the Tri-State area named Dr. Doofenshmirtz. His plans are crazy, elaborate, and usually involve some sort of "inator" like a shrinkator to accomplish his task. His plans are foiled by Perry the Platypus. Milo Murphy's Law includes two characters named Vinnie Dakota and Balthazar Cavendish. They are good guys who traveled from the future to save pistachio trees. Dakota and Cavendish believe Milo Murphy to be the bad person trying to destroy pistachios.

The Setting

Phineas and Ferb takes place during the wonderful time of year for kids, summer break. Milo Murphy's setting is during school. Also, Phineas and Ferb are small kids. Milo Murphy and his friends are all teenagers.

Conclusion

My kids and I enjoy the show because we enjoyed Phineas and Ferb so much. As we make more comparisons, we will update this blog post.
