As I type, I am lying in a bed surrounded by a mosquito net. I'm sure you realize from the title that I'm in Haiti, but that raises many other questions. Some of those questions may be: Why are you in Haiti? and Where are you in Haiti?
I'll answer the second question first. I'm about twenty miles north of Port Au Prince near a town called Titanyen. Most of this week (Wednesday, June 28 to Wednesday July 5), I've spent my days in a village called Simonette. The village is near a port which has been built recently.
I thought many of the people would have a job working at the port, but that was not the case. Mainly, the people of Simonette sustain themselves by trading goods with other locals. One woman we met had caught some minnow-type fish and was cleaning them to trade at the market next day.
Another interesting aspect of Simonette was that the people didn't pay for their electricity. I was shocked (pun intended) to see the village had electricity, but even more shocked to see that it was free. The majority of people didn't have electric appliances so it was for lighting and for charging cell phones mainly.
Now, I will answer the first question: Why am I in Haiti? I have an understanding that Yahweh is to be worshiped with all my heart, soul, and strength. Likewise, I believe all nations should worship Yahweh because He deserves honor and glory. Because I believe all people should worship, I want to take the Gospel (good news of Jesus the Christ) to all nations and people groups, including the people of Haiti.
I'm willing, along with the other people from Holly Baptist Church, to give of my time, my wealth, and my health so other people will worship Yahweh. Are you willing to sacrifice your resources to share the Gospel with other people?
