Who I Am

Thomas Magers joined Holly Baptist Church in April 2016 as Pastor. He was licensed and ordained by First Baptist Church Nettleton. He graduated from Blue Mountain College in 2011 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biblical Studies (minor: Psychology). He also graduated in 2014 from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary (NOBTS) with a Master of Divinity specializing in Expository Preaching. Currently, he is pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Biblical Exposition from NOBTS. He served Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church in Union County, MS, and Tiplersville Baptist Church in Tippah County, MS, as pastor before joining Holly.

Thomas has many favorite Bible passages. His favorite story from the Bible is the story of the Prodigal Son in Luke 15:11-32. His life-verse has changed over the years to accommodate different needs. He is a recovering drug addict so early on his life-verse was 2 Corinthians 5:17, “Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.” Currently, Thomas identified his life verse as 2 Corinthians 4:5, “For we do not preach ourselves but Christ Jesus as Lord, and ourselves as your bond-servants for Jesus’ sake.”

Thomas’ favorite activities are centered around his family. He enjoys spending time with his wife and three children. He enjoys their biennial trip to Walt Disney World. He also enjoys doing electrical and HVAC work, playing golf, and reading.
